Groom Speeches – The one thing you are going to have to think about and plan if you are going to get married. Now I don’t care what anyone tells you but there ain’t too many of us men folk that can stand up in front of close relatives and friends and give a groom speech for 10 or 15 minutes without first preparing for it – very few if any.
I remeber a few years back that I was best man at my brother’s wedding and I was planking it I can tell you. I wasn’t use to standing up in front of people so I knew I would have to prepare for my best mans speech. The one thing it did for me though was it was the best training that I could ever have for when I would need to give a speech at my own wedding.
Groom Speeches – Some Good Tips
Here are some useful tips for you when you start to plan your own groom speech
1. Don’t plan the funny stuff straight off. That will come later. I found this to be of great benefit.
2. Just jot down some points about how you and your bride to be met, how long you are together, some memorable events etc..
3. Don’t worry at all about the content order at this point – what is important is to get some stuff down on paper – you will be surprised what you can come up with
4. Once you have a skeleton of the groom speech down on paper only then should you consider speech jokes to spice it up a bit. Just make sure that they tie in with an event in your lives and not just a joke for the sake of it.
5. Factor in who else is going to give some speeches as this will allow you set a time limit for your own. For example is there going to be a father of the bride speech ( you can almost assume there will be ) , bride speech ( yep she may want to say something ) or even a maid of honor speech ( yes believe it or not there are quite a few of these nowadays ). You might not think this is important but I would beg to differ. For my own wedding my wife said more than a few words but I know this in advance so I could plan my own one accordingly.
6. Practice, practice, practice. I know you might laugh at me but when I had my speech down in paper I practiced it in front of the mirror a few times. Now I didn’t spend hours doing this but I did find it a help just to hear my own voice and how I sounded – you could of course practice this in front of a family member but for the most part you don’t want anyone to hear the groom speech so that is why I found the mirror option to be a good one.
